Only people with the password can access your destination.

Who Uses Password-Protected Links?

Common scenarios for secure link sharing

Client Deliverables

Share project files, reports, and documents with clients. Only they can access, not whoever stumbles on the link.

Internal Resources

Share company resources, training materials, or internal tools with team members without complex access systems.

Exclusive Content

Gate premium content, early access, or special offers behind a password for VIP customers.

Private Videos

Share unlisted videos or recordings with specific people. Password protection adds a layer beyond "unlisted."

Sensitive Documents

Share contracts, proposals, or confidential materials with an extra security layer.

Event Materials

Share event recordings, presentations, or resources only with attendees who have the password.

What's Included

Everything you need to gate a link, live on the Pro plan today

Custom Passwords

Set any password you want on a link when you create it, so only people who have it can reach your destination.

Expiration Dates

Set any link to expire on a date you choose, so time-sensitive access closes on its own. See link expiration.

Change or Remove Anytime

Add, change, or remove the password on any link whenever you need to, without breaking the short URL.

Works With Analytics

Every protected link still records clicks, locations, and devices, so you can see how much your gated content gets accessed.

On the roadmap: per-attempt access logs that separate successful and failed password entries, and a branded password prompt.

Layer On Extra Security

Combine password protection with these built-in options for defense in depth

  • Create short links with obscure slugs

Use random or hard-to-guess slugs for links you don't want easily discovered.

  • Track who clicks your links

Monitor access with click analytics, see locations, devices, and timing.

  • Change destinations anytime

Update where a link points to revoke access to old content.

Password Protection FAQ

Common questions about password-protected links

Is password protection available now?

Yes. Password-protected links are available today on the URLcut.ai Pro plan. Sign up free and upgrade to Pro to enable this feature.

Is password protection on the free plan?

Password-protected links are a Pro feature due to the additional infrastructure required. The Pro plan is $12/month early adopter.

Can I change the password after creating a link?

Yes. You can change, remove, or add a password to any of your links at any time, and the short URL stays the same.

Will I know if someone entered the wrong password?

The password prompt blocks anyone who does not have the password. Today you can see overall access to a link through click analytics, including timing, location, and device. Per-attempt logs that separate successful and failed password entries are on our roadmap.

Can I set an expiration date for the link?

Yes. You can set any link to expire after 7, 14, 30, or 90 days, so time-limited access closes on its own. Expiry is available on every plan, including Free, and it works alongside password protection.

What happens if someone forgets the password?

You control the password. If someone forgets it, you can share it with them again or change it to something new.
